A. Sue Russell, Ph.D., Ph.D.
Recently Christianity Today posted an article about blogs and about the increasing diversity of people writing blogs on religious subjects. Because there are so many it is difficult to know who to trust and what background they have to engage their subject. So a little about me.
I am writing this blog because I love studying and teaching about how to live the life we were created to live. My perspective comes from three sources.
The first is my own encounter with Jesus and the changes I saw in my own life as I experienced his love and healing. I am passionate about sharing this new life with others and have been able to do so for over 40 years.
Another source of my perspective is my education and teaching in an academic setting. I have an MA in Intercultural Studies and History of Christianity, I have an M. Div. and Th.M. in New Testament, as well as three doctorates; a Doctor of Missology, Ph.D. in Linguistic Anthropology and a Ph.D. in Early Christian History. My educational experience provides the foundation for teaching from the Biblical text. I taught the book of Acts for over 12 years at Biola University and am currently a Professor of Contextualization at Asbury Theological Seminary.
The third source of my perspective is 15 years with Wycliffe Bible Translators working overseas with a group of pastors to translate the whole Bible into their language. I had only been a Christian three years when I started working with this group of amazing men and women. They became my spiritual mentors and I learned how live as a Christian in this community. They taught me much about living in community together as the family of God.
And of course I cannot forget how much being married has contributes to my lived experience of the gospel. I married an amazing man, who daily lives out Christ’s love for me.
I hope to get to know many of you soon and hear how you live out the gospel in you lives.
Oh and one more thing, I can’t spell. I will do my best, but please be patient with me. It is one of the reasons I have never bogged.
